In the first game of a Monday Night Football doubleheader, the Miami Dolphins will start their 2011 season at home on Sun Life Stadium against their AFC east Rival New England Patriots this Monday September 12th.

It is quite evident why the Patriots are favorites for this one, against a rebuilding Miami team which seems to be not content but resigned with their quarterback situation, as well as dependant on a rookie and a veteran for their running game.
Statistically, Miami’s defense was able to post decent numbers last season, ranking 8th against the pass and 7th against the run, however their major woes came on offense, where they ranked 16th overall on passing and 21st on rushing.
This year they drafted rookie Daniel Thomas who seems to be the candidate to be the work horse of that backfield, and they also brought Reggie Bush from New Orleans who will likely be used as a third down back on passing situations. It will still be Chad Henne under center this year, who will start with another year of experience under his belt.
The Patriots will come to tow with their arsenal of weapons on offense, led by last year’s MVP Tom Brady, who has a ton of resources to make life extremely difficult for opposing defenses. Their duo of young tight ends in Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski as well as the addition of Chad Ochocinco might just prove to be too explosive to handle. They also brought in troubled Albert Haynesworth to anchor their D-Line, who will resurge as one of the top defensive linemen of the year under Coach Bill Belichik.
A seriously complicated match-up for the Dolphins who can find themselves playing from behind early, and be forced to throw the ball against the Patriots. Certainly New England has the upside.
