Steelers QB Byron Leftwich suffered a torn MCL in his left knee on Thursday night.
Leftwich was injured in a 19-3 preseason finale win against the Carolina Panthers, which adds more drama to the already uncertain quarterback situation the Steelers are facing.
Leftwich was a contender to replace Ben Roethlisberger during his suspension to start the season.
With him out, third-year player Dennis Dixon and veteran Charlie Batch are left atop the team’s depth chart.
Leftwich could miss several weeks, which could coincide with the time Roethlisberger misses on suspension.
The Steelers also have veteran WR Antwaan Randle El on the roster. A former college QB, he could serve as an third/emergency option behind Batch and Dixon.
